Class of 2022 - Israel Scholars

Cathrine Døssing, of Denmark, is currently studying German, History, and Yiddish at the University of Copenhagen and Lund University. Thanks to the generosity of TTS, Cathrine will attend the Summer Ulpan in Jerusalem to improve her Hebrew skills. Her academic interests include modern Hebrew and Yiddish literature, Jewish-German history and thought, and German minorities. She is particularly interested in the German-speaking Jewry in Israel. She hopes that by improving her Hebrew skills, she will be better able to explore the question of how they have reflected on their place within German and Jewish culture.

Tuomas Juutiliainen, of Finland, is a student at University of Helsinki about to complete his BA at the Faculty of Theology. During his studies, he has studied both Biblical Hebrew and Modern Hebrew. Tuomas is planning to continue his studies of Modern Hebrew in the MA program in languages at the Faculty of Arts. He is also starting to teach Modern Hebrew for beginners in his hometown of Lahti. The Thanks To Scandinavia scholarship helps him to attend the Modern Hebrew Summer Course in Israel to improve his skills in Modern Hebrew.
